The Lake Dwellings on Lake Constance

The Lake Dwellings on Lake Constance - World Heritage Site
In 2011, the pile dwellings at Lake Constance were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humanity due to their outstanding preservation under water. In Europe there are more than 2000 sites of this kind in lakes and marshes. They are highly valued in archaeological research as significant remains of settlements from the Stone and Bronze Ages (5th - 1st millennium BC). They have been researched throughout Europe since 1854. They provide great opportunities to reconstruct prehistoric houses, the environment, economic and social forms from a time when there was no writing in our country.
